Game Notes for Week 8 of College Football
This article is brought to you by fellow poster EnergyBlue1.
Week 8 the plot thickens as four top ten teams lost the week before, Georgia, West Virginia, Washington and Penn State with other top ten teams holding on in closer games than expected, Ohio State, Notre Dame Texas and UCF holding on.
The theme continued in the rest of the top 25 with Virginia over Miami, Tennessee over Auburn, USC over Colorado and others like Florida and Texas A&M holding on for victories as well.
ACC:
#16 N.C. State at #3 Clemson, perhaps the toughest game remaining on the schedule till the ACC Championship game for the Tigers. Tough road environment looks to be a bit to much for the wolf pack. NC State averages 33 a game and giving up about 17 while Clemson scoring more and giving up a couple less and averages more yards per play. Clemson gets this done late!
BIG12:
#9 Oklahoma at TCU, tricky road game in the BIG12 as TCU is fast and talented! The Horn-frogs shot themselves in the foot against Ohio State with turnovers for scores being the difference. They can play with anyone. #9 Oklahoma scoring offense vs. the #20 scoring defense of TCU. At home worth a couple points. TCU needs offensive help to get this done!
SEC:
#1 Alabama at Tennessee, suddenly this looks like a much better game. Tennessee fresh off a huge win at Auburn and Alabama’s top player is injured, maybe and the Tide defense has not been up to the Nick Saban standard! This is a forgotten rivalry and one of the biggest rivalry games in the SEC. This should be the first dog fight for a half for Alabama all season. But they pull away late. Classic don’t let the home team believe!
#22 Mississippi State at #5 LSU, how does LSU keep getting ranked opponents week after week. Seriously the SEC must be P*ss** that they fired Les Miles! These teams are nearly identical and point differential between scoring offense and scoring defense is very close. This looks to be a slug fest we thought we would see last week with LSU/Georgia! LSU is better and at home again. Look for LSU to take this going away and run on the #1 scoring defense.
PAC12:
#12 Oregon at #25 Washington State, PAC12 to the Ducks, You’re our only hope in a hologram message. The Ducks travel to Pullman having lost three straight to the Cougars. The PAC12 needs this one and for the Ducks to reestablish the PAC12 in the College Football Playoff race.
Big 10:
#6 Michigan at #24 Michigan State, it’s state week, both teams are coming off huge wins. Michigan dominated Wisconsin often considered the most physical team in the conference and MSU pulled out a win over top ten Penn State! This game is huge in the division and the in state rivalry. The #2 Total Defense and #1 overall pass defense in Michigan and #1 Rush defense in MSU. The dog fight starts at noon. With MSU pulling out late game magic and Michigan having lots to prove on the road vs. a ranked opponent this game looks to be tight going into the 4th! Scoring differential favors the wolverines look for the top pass defense to be the difference for Michigan while efficient signal caller to get points against a pass defense that struggles. But this is a rivalry game, someone has tricks up their sleeve.
#2 Ohio State at Purdue, do the spoiler makers have magic in this one or do the Buckeyes run them off the field? Either way this game should be entertaining with the ball being thrown everywhere and the conferences top two passers in a showdown.
Minnesota at Nebraska and we are on Scot Frost watch for his first win. A bad snap and coaching decision to go for it on 4th and then give up the easy points to lose cost them last week. Minnesota fresh off of testing Ohio State on the road last week. Not ready to call this a win for Frost yet.
