Game Notes for Week 10 of College Football
This article is brought to you by fellow poster EnergyBlue1.
This is a huge weekend of college football action as ESPN is dubbing this Statement Saturday! This weekend is all about big games among highly ranked teams to see who stays alive in the College Football Playoff race as well as Conference / Division Races! Lose this week and you may be eliminated from both. With monster match-ups across conferences let’s dive in. Add in games you think are important and discuss a huge upcoming weekend of College Football!
BIG12:
#12 West Virginia at #15 Texas, this huge for the conference and college football playoff hopes. West Virginia’s offense is flying averaging 39.9 ppg while the Texas defense lost itself playing inconsistent on defense again. A One loss West Virginia heads into the final 4 games that is a meat grinder of Texas, TCU, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma!
#7 Oklahoma at Texas Tech, two of the top ten scoring offenses in the country face off in what is sure to be a track meet to see which offense wins more races to the end zone. Fireworks will light off this BIG12 game as well as start defining the BIG12 race.
ACC:
Louisville at #2 Clemson, ugh! The Ville has given up over 50 points 3 times this season. Make it 4!
#24 Boston College at Virginia Tech, again ugh!
PAC12:
#16 Utah at Arizona St, quietly the Utes have put together a solid season and are now leading the PAC12 south! Big game for relevance for the PAC12 as a whole which is fighting for relevance. And we all know in the desert at night is no easy place to play and I’ve been rooting for the Fighting Edwards/Sun Devils all season!
Cal at #10 Washington State! Wazzou fighting for respect has to keep winning as they aren’t getting any yet!
BIG10 / Independent:
#3 Notre Dame at Northwestern, huge to the Big Ten, huge to Notre Dame and the College Football Playoff! Maybe the most intriguing game or at least hard to predict game this weekend. Which Northwestern team shows up? Which Notre Dame team shows up? Both are Jekyll and Hyde playing up or down to competition. Notre Dame came out strong against Michigan holding on for a 7 point win and then barely holding on against Pitt! Northwestern who beat Purdue and Michigan State, played to the bone against Michigan in a hard fought loss. NW just blew out Wisconsin, the same team that lost to duke and Akron and had to hang on against Nebraska and Rutgers! What gives? I think Notre Dame wins in another battle to the end.
#14 Penn St at #5 Michigan, Penn State rebounded for a big win against Iowa as Trace McSorely returned from an injury in the 1st half to lead the Nittany Lions to a win. Michigan standing atop the Big Ten East looks to continue the march toward the division title. Off the bye week for Michigan from two dominant victories Penn St comes to town with some renewed confidence! McSorely and a top 10 offense want to show some magic against the number 1 total defense in the country!
SEC:
#6 Georgia at #11 Kentucky, who could have predicted this. Kentucky found some offense last week as Georgia reasserted itself as a dominant SEC East foe! Not enough offense for Kentucky as the Dawgs seal the SEC East and set up a match-up going to the SEC Conference Championship Game!
#1 Alabama at #4 LSU, seems like we watched this script a few times nearly a decade ago. But things are a little different now. Alabama has played only one opponent currently ranked! And to the point, it’s Alabama’s offense that has been the difference for the Tide being the elite unit. The # 1 offense in scoring, efficiency however LSU is a different challenge. This is the first top 25 defense they have faced since Texas A&M and only the second in the top 60. We all want to find out if Alabama’s offense is that good against the # 15 scoring defense and one of the few defenses that can match up talent wise against the bama offense! Huge show down. LSU’s question, do they have enough offense to beat Bama?
