Impressions: UNLV
by CoachBT · September 11, 2023

- Very Good game #2, showed improvement.
- Still things to work on.
- One of the worse things a team can do is peak too early.
- UM defense has a chance to be special.
- Tackling can be better, but it was not terrible.
- This is as deep a defense at UM in along time.
- UMs top 3 DTs all can be special. The inside push has been very good.
- UNLV doubled inside and they still made plays.
- The biggest improvement over last season has been linebacker play.
- UM defense forced UNLV to play behind the chains often.
- And UM has played without starters in the secondary in both games.
- Derrick Moore’s speed rush was a thing of beauty.
- MacGregor beating the double and stopping the stretch play was also a thing of beauty
- UM punter was outstanding.
- Two youngsters deserve a shout out, on defense. Late flip JD Waller shows great athletic ability for such length. And he is physical.
- Not bad for 3* player.
- Offense was very efficient.
- JJ’s improvement is off the charts.
- His leadership and maturity are on a different level.
- We now know how bad his shoulder must have been. The zip is outstanding.
- UM tackles had issues early handling slants and angles.
- UM switched how they blocked the gap and it made a huge difference.
- Hinton in particular struggled when he had to gap down.
- 2023 has shown us some of the best pass pro in years.
- JJ has all day.
- Wilson is very good.
- Edward’s IMO will be a better pro than college player.
- His skill set is perfect for the NFL.
- Corum looked better this week, but still not up to 22 level.
- S Morgan has a chance to be special.
- He is scary quick and shows very good fast twitch skills.
- And when looking at recruits remember both Waller and Morgan were 3* prospects!
- That’s all, Until next week, Go Blue!
