  • Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Stephen Hopkins 2010 Signed Profile

    Posted at 6:00am -- 2/9/2010

    GBMWolverine Message Board Readers:
Here is a overview of University of Michigan recent signed commitment Stephen Hopkins.

    Height: 6’0
    Weight: 235
    Position: Running Back
High School: Flower Mound Marcus Marauders (Texas)
    Head Coach: Bryan Erwin
    Recruiter: Coach Fred Jackson
Class: 2010 Michigan Wolverine Recruiting Class (Enrolled)

    Overview:

Stephen has a good combination of size and athletic ability and is an all around back who shows the ability to play with and without the football.

    Strengths:

Stephen is a big strong physical back who runs very well between the offensive tackles and has enough speed to also bounce outside. He is a willing blocker who has a nice stiff arm. He gets many yards after contact by keeping his feet moving and also has good initial quickness and straight-line speed.

    Needs work:

Stephen is not overly elusive and does not maintain speed on cuts. It would help if he got his pad level just a bit lower.

Stephen reminds us of this former Michigan Wolverine:

    Leroy Hoard.

Red-shirt or play his freshman year:

    Red-shirt likely.

    Where do they rank him:

    ESPN: 3-Star .. #50 at position.
    Rivals: 3-Star .. #N/A at position.
    Scout: 3-Star .. #52 at position.

    Final Thoughts:

Could Stephen be Brandon Minor’s replacement? He has the size to be that downhill runner that can do damage in between the tackles that Michigan seems to be lacking. By coming in early, Stephen will get every opportunity (more reps) this spring to show the coaches what he has, especially with Vincent Smith out in the spring. Also, Stephen’s role might depend on what happens to Mike Cox as well.

We welcome Stephen Hopkins to Michigan and hope he has a successful career on and off the football field as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
