Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Khaleke Hudson 2016 Signed Profile

GBMWolverine Message Board Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recently signed commitment Khaleke Hudson.
For those who like to watch highlight films of recruits, recently signed Khaleke Hudson should be a treat. He is simply fun to watch. He could play both sides of the ball and clearly fits Jim Harbaugh’s definition (and every other coaches’) of an athlete.
As such, he was one of the highest rated “athletes” in the 2016 class. He is a very high level jack of all trades type of player, and the ultimate question will Khaleke be a true master of any particular position. One thing for certain, he is a candidate for many spots on the Michigan football team. Safety is the bet here from the get go. But if the running back situation does not solidify, it would not surprise he is gets a try out.
Khalek is from the McKeesport, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. He plays all over the field. On defense Khaleke plays linebacker and safety. The fear will pop up (already has) that Khaleke is a tweener, probably too short and small to play linebacker, and maybe not enough pure speed to be a premium safety. If he plays safety, Khaleke will need to play slot guys straight up and fill the box as an additional linebacker.
He is clearly one of those guys who is a football player, and an aggressive one at that. The view here is that Michigan is a good fit for Hudson. And the bet is that he should fit well at either strong or free safety. Khaleke has good football sense and shows intensity.
Khaleke is a high three-star, low four-star prospect, but is clearly a better athlete than many ahead of him in the rankings. He is not a big burner, or big, period, but, as stated, he seems to know and be able to play the game of football. His immediate use may be special teams. Coaches love athletic safeties and linebackers on special teams.

Khaleke is a unique guy. He’s tough, physical and can cover. He crosses of all the boxes of a football player. Just a tough, tough guy and he’ll find his way on the field early.

When you talk about a football player, you talk about Khaleke Hudson. He’s a great young man, a good student, and is definitely the poster boy for a Michigan man. Khaleke is extremely well rounded and can play offense, defense, and special teams. He’s very instinctive in the game, he’s smart, and what’s impressive about him is that he’s very physical. You wrap all three of those into one and you have a pretty good football player. From the student side of things and the social side, he is a very humble young man. You would never know that he has had all the success that he has had thus far. We are excited to have Khaleke join our secondary unit and this program.

Overview:
Khaleke Hudson was the Post Gazette Pennsylvania Player of the Year. He starred on both sides of the ball. Khaleke gained 1258 yards with 25 touchdowns in 2015. He rushed for over 2900 yards between his junior and senior seasons. On defense he had 88 tackles as a ball-hawking safety. Hudson has the skill set to play either offense or defense at Michigan and will more than likely help on special teams. Khaleke averages eight points a game as a guard for the McKeesport basketball team.
Strengths:
This kid brings it every play. He plays the game with a fire and fury we love. Shows excellent speed and has excellent explosive acceleration. Khaleke runs well between the tackles and is elusive in space. He also shows good hands in the passing game. It is his furious hits that caught our eye. Khaleke not only tackles opponents, he buries them. Importantly, Khaleke also shows very good recognition in pass defense.
Concerns/Needs Work:
Khaleke plays a bit stiff on both sides of the ball. He especially needs to work on his bend and changing levels. On offense he has a habit of bouncing early rather than honoring the hole. On defense he plays upright and needs to improve his stance.
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
GBMWolverine Message Board Staff believes he will likely red-shirt his first year. Khaleke has the skill to play early, but a redshirt would still be helpful.
