Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Michael Dwumfour 2016 Signed Profile

GBMWolverine Message Board Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recently signed commitment Michael Dwumfour.
The last few days of the 2016 recruiting cycle produced surprises. There were some comers and goers, and perhaps an idea of what new Michigan Defensive Coordinator has in mind for the future Michigan defense. Some pure power decommitted from the Michigan 2016 class.
His name is Michael Dwumfour, a somewhat undersized lineman at 62 and around 285 pounds. Gap penetration and quickness will be his tools to success. But, he can be physical and cause some havoc.
Dwumfour has really good speed, almost linebacker fast. He is another Jersey kid from DePaul Catholic.
Michaels offer sheet was moderate, with Michigan being the highest profile program that offered the high three-star prospect. However, one of those offers was from Boston College and Coach Don Brown, now with the Michigan staff. It seems that Brown already has a vision for Dwumfour and a couple of other late defensive commits. The plan just may be to go smaller and more athletic. Time and scheme will show in the future if this inference is correct.
There are many defensive tackle prospects similar to Michael Dwumfour. But, his assets of speed and playing through to the offensive backfield may set him apart, from much of the mainstream.

Side Note: Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.
Michigan Coach Don Brown on Michael Dwumfour:
He's an inside guy along our defensive front. Michael is very explosive, can separate on the double team and has good lateral movement. He comes from a great family. Michael's a passionate football guy and will be an unbelievable addition to our front and the Michigan football program.
Michigan Coach Greg Mattison on Michael Dwumfour:
Mike is a very good defensive tackle that has explosion and an ability to run. He plays very hard and gives you size as well as quickness on the interior of the defensive line. Mike will be a valuable addition to our defensive line and to the Michigan family.

Overview:
After signing day has given us a good idea regarding which way Coach Brown is taking the defense. There seems to be a premium on quickness and athletic ability. Michigans new defensive lineman commit fits the bill perfectly. Lacking ideal size, Dwumfour makes up for it with overall movement skills and technique. He is the perfect candidate for an attacking, aggressive front 3-technique tackle. Michael recorded 8 sacks as a senior.
Strengths:
Michael Dwumfour plays with a nice low center of gravity and good pad level. We have a caveat to this, but more on that later. Michael shows good explosion and quickness off the ball. What impressed us most was his hand use, which is clearly above average. His hands are lightning fast and he uses them as weapons and to disengage blockers. His athleticism is highlighted by good agility for a defensive tackle.
Concerns/Needs Work:
Even in an aggressive movement style defense, Michael will need to add weight and get stronger. Still with his quickness and speed, Michael does make many plays in pursuit. Also his first movement out of his stance is straight up, instead of forward. Also, he has a tendency to play vertically instead of flat to the LOS.
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
