GBMWolverine Message Board Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recently signed commitment Elysee Mben-Bosse.
Michigan signees Elysee Mben-Bosse and Joshua Uche, committed on the same weekend late in the 2016 recruiting class. Currently, Elysee is an inside linebacker, but there are other possibilities, depending on two different paths of bulking up or slimming down.
Elysee is from Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia. Like many recruits, Elysee liked about everything Michigan had to offer on his visit. Elysee has good size for an incoming freshman, about 6 2 and 230 pounds. His offer sheet was long and listed were Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
He is recognized as a high three-star or low four-star recruit, somewhere in the range of 15-20 ranked at inside linebacker. Elysee has not had near as much football experience as most graduating seniors.
Deficiencies of technique, stiffness, and hesitancy on film show the is lack of playing time, but also an upside that may be significant. His strengths include toughness, size, athleticism, and speed. This is why his big school offer list was notable. So, there are improvements that must occur to see playing time. However, Elysee has the physical ingredients needed to be a high level Division 1 player. Where he will fit into Michigans defense is clearly uncertain, the assumption of middle linebacker is certainly predominant, but not exclusive.

Note: Stars do matter, but are not absolute in predicting success within a football program. So, with that in mind the GBMWolverine Message Board Staff has cleverly come up with a new system of ranking. We are using footballs instead of stars, how can one argue against a system that clever? Below are the interpretations of football power predicted way too boldly long before it matters. In other words, we will give informed opinion with the crystal ball and let the players determine what will happen through years of hard work.
Criteria: Raw talent, athleticism, position of need, intangibles.
GBMWolverine Message Board Staff Rankings:
10 footballs: Instant impact player.
9 footballs: Three or four-year starter at a high level.
8 footballs: A starter with all league potential.
7 footballs: A meaningful starter at some time during a career.
6 footballs: A spot starter or special teams player.
5 footballs: Not in the two deep after a two years.
4 footballs: Never made it.
1-3 footballs: See the above.
We have him at 7 footballs.
Side Note: Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.
Michigan Coach Don Brown on Elysee Mbem-Bosse:
Elysee Boss Man is a true sideline-to-sideline guy. He plays downhill and can explode on contact and has really good coverage skills for a middle linebacker. Hes a no-brainer for us and fits exactly what we are trying to do within our system.
Key Stats:
Registered 81 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries as a junior
Honors:
Rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 31 prospect in Georgia
ESPN four-star prospect and 37th-best player in the state of Georgia
Scout.com three-star prospect; listed as the No. 20 inside linebacker nationally and the second-best inside linebacker in Georgia
In the Words of the Mbem Bosse Family:
We are very proud of our son Elysee Vainqueur Mbem Bosse. His middle name means "winner" because the day of his birth we saw in him a spirit of Winner. He told us a few weeks ago that the University of Michigan has the spirit of a winner. He loves God and believes that everything is possible to him who fears God, which fashioned his very respectful characters. He is hard-working, with a sense of advanced determination. He has the taste of victory and the sense of perfection and anticipation in everything he does. He likes to make people very happy, and enjoys helping the elderly and homeless. He likes to start and end with God in prayer. He loves a cheerful environment and hate idleness.
Overview:
Elysee Mben-Bosse definitely passes the sight test. He has ideal size and the temperament to play inside linebacker. Elysee could play in either a three or four man front scheme. He recorded 176 tackles. 6.5 sacks, and 2 interceptions over the last two seasons and scored 5 touchdowns as a senior. No GPA was listed.
Strengths:
Elysee Mben-Bosse is big and strong, and is not shy when it comes to contact. He is a solid former tackler who finishes. Elysee is a downhill defender who fills and attacks the iso play. He has nice long arms and a very good frame. Film shows he is an excellent blitzer and OK in coverage.
Concerns/Needs Work:
Film shows Elysee has at best average lateral movement. Also, he is a step behind plays, perhaps because he appears to be looking into the backfield instead of reading his line keys. Elysee also needs to use his hands more when taking on blockers. He has a tendency to be caught a bit flat-footed at times.
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
GBMWolverine Message Board Staff believes he will likely red-shirt his first year. This would be best; there is much polishing to do.
Elysee Mben-Bosse reminds the GBMWolverine Message Board Staff of -- Former Michigan Football Player Sam Sword who played Linebacker.
