Michigan Football Recruiting: Joe Milton 2018 Commit Profile
GBMW Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recent verbal commitment Joe Milton.
Even though there is “technically” no available spots in the 2018 class, Michigan continues to take commitments. Now, for sure, some will leave, get hurt, the usual, and spots will open up. But the question will be posited, just how far can Michigan go this early in taking “nonexistent” spots? Not to worry, yet!
Even with the slender number of openings on the near horizon, Michigan, according to some recruits, may take two quarterbacks. Well see about that, but the certainty is that Michigan has one recent current commitment, Joe Milton of Orlando, Florida.
Joe Milton becomes almost an instant enigma for extended conversation. He is not in the thin crowd of being the one or two quarterbacks everyone, everyone, wants each year in the recruiting cycle. Some sites have him rated as a dual threat guy and some as a drop back. Some sites rate him much higher than others. The sites are not off, there is simply no way to tell how this scene will turn out three or four years down the road.

Joe Milton 2018 commit
Joe Milton is raw, no doubt. He is inconsistent, no doubt. But, look at his offer sheet and it will take half a morning bowl of cereal to finish the list. He does not have offers from the current big three of recruiting- Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State- but he does have a long list of offers from top thirty types.
Joe Milton is near 6 foot six inches, well over 215 pounds and he has a cannon, a real cannon attached to his right arm. Joe is an above average athlete for a skill position player. As the old coaching saying goes, “Ya can’t teach that stuff.”
One can infer that his work ethic is secure or else doubtful with all of the quarterbacks available Harbaugh would reach clear out to Florida for a real reach. Joe will be written about for the next year until he signs the tender offer.
Let us simplify this: there is clearly a risk, and there is clearly a potential for high reward. With arm strength like Joe’s and running ability and big size, if the fundamentals, the mental side, the development falls into place, Joe could be an explosive giant. It is not an understatement to consider his arm as past strong. But many guys win with average arm strength.
Once got a quote from a wise ol’ coach who mentioned that if a guy can throw a football over a building, this effort is worthless if the receiver is two floors under the ball.

Note: Stars do matter, but are not absolute in predicting success within a football program. So, with that in mind the GBMWolverine Staff has cleverly come up with a new system of ranking. We are using footballs instead of stars, how can one argue against a system that clever? Below are the interpretations of football power predicted way too boldly long before it matters. In other words, we will give informed opinion with the crystal ball and let the players determine what will happen through years of hard work.
Criteria: Raw talent, athleticism, position of need, intangibles.
GBMW Staff Rankings:
10 footballs: Instant impact player.
9 footballs: Three or four-year starter at a high level.
8 footballs: A starter with all league potential.
7 footballs: A meaningful starter at some time during a career.
6 footballs: A spot starter or special teams player.
5 footballs: Not in the two deep after a two years.
4 footballs: Never made it.
1-3 footballs: See the above.
This is a tough one. We have him at 7 footballs on performance, but his ceiling is much higher, 8 or even higher. But there are three guys, as it currently stands, who are 8’s on the potential scale who will be competing.
Side Note: Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

Joe Milton 2018 commit
Overview:
Joe Milton is a tall, strong armed quarterback who is also an above average athlete. Joe has thrown for 2500 yards, 25 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over the last two seasons. No GPA was listed.
Strengths:
For raw potential Milton will be hard to surpass. He has a very strong arm, ideal height, a great frame, and is a plus athlete. Milton has very good feet and moves well in the pocket. His film also shows an ability to escape the rush and gain yardage with his legs.
Concerns/Needs Work:
Joe’s mechanics are very rough. His release point is low and he has a bad habit of short-arming, or guiding/goosing his passes. He also tries to force passes and is an erratic passer. Hence, he is inconsistent.
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
GBMW Staff believes he will likely red-shirt his first year.
Joe Milton reminds the GBMW Staff of — Former Michigan Football Player — Devin Gardner — who played Quarterback.
