Game Notes for Week 5 of College Football
This article is brought to you by fellow poster EnergyBlue1.
Okay, so I didn’t do this thread last week, got busy and thought it was a ho-hum schedule that turned out to be anything but.
Quick review:
Old Dominion shocks Virginia Tech and was the better team.
Oklahoma holds off Army in a fight for their College Football Playoff dreams and were absolutely on the ropes.
Kentucky is more legit than we thought?
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia just marched along.
Michigan handled business against the reeling Nebraska Cornhuskers.
On to Week 5 is loaded with big games!
PAC12:
Is where all of the action is this week.
#20 BYU at #11 Washington, College Football Playoff elimination game for Washington and it’s a big game for BYU to get into the discussion.
#19 Oregon at #24 Cal, Cal has surprised and some former Michigan players contributing big to the Golden Bears! Oregon lost a stunner to Stanford and this is a trap game.
The big game and the best PAC12 hope for the College Football Playoff…
#7 Stanford at #8 Notre Dame, the PAC12 needs a team with a big out-of-conference win and this is the ticket. ND without a conference championship game must stay undefeated or risk getting left out as a 1 loss team. College Football Playoff ramifications are huge here! Cardinals looked strong vs. USC and had the stunning comeback over Oregon and this is the week after. ND looked like they woke up from a slumber against Wake Forest!
BIG12:
#12 West Virginia vs. #25 Texas Tech, big numbers for Will Grier!
#18 Texas at Kansas State, did Texas turn it around or are they playing up to their competition?
ACC:
Syracuse at #3 Clemson, are the ‘cuse a challenge or does Clemson walk through? ACC is a disaster right now. After Clemson the top 6 teams in the ACC may not beat the next top 6 of any other power 5 conference.
Virginia Tech at #22 Duke? Duke handled Northwestern and has been solid, was ODU just a nightmare trap game for the Hokies and they bounce back or are the Duke boys legit?
Pitt at #13 UCF would be a huge out-of-conference win for the ACC, but UCF hasn’t missed a beat after last season! (Frost might be regretting leaving UCF about now).
SEC:
Boring boring boring week in SEC country this week.
South Carolina at #17 Kentucky is the biggest game on the schedule. And that is to see if Kentucky can keep a solid record and be a legit game against Georgia.
Ole Miss at #5 LSU, only other game that may be a good game. Can the Rebels make it a game in death valley and is LSU going to be a legit team through the season?
Tennessee at #2 Georgia, it doesn’t matter where this is played, it’s already over!
Louisiana at #1 Alabama, Bama fans keep tailgating, go in for the band, the anthem and the five TD’s of the first quarter. Why Bama why is this even scheduled.
BIG10:
#4 Ohio State at #9 Penn State, ramifications are huge in this one. Big10 East, College Football Playoffs and a clear strength of schedule boost!
#14 Michigan at Northwestern, not the glitz or glamor we thought this game would be and now all important to Michigan to stay in the race. Northwestern had a bye week to fix some issues, did they?
Purdue at Nebraska, Purdue finally looked like the team we thought they would be and Nebraska is reeling. Huskers 0-4? Frost needs a big win here in a big way or the season collapses entirely.
