Josh Gattis to Miami

Not a fan of how Gattis left Michigan…
Some fans are worried about a tweet that was put out by Anthony, but all I got to say is that Gattis was the OC and the WR coach. It is almost criminal that Anthony didn’t get on the field anymore than he did or plays designed for him. He is one of the fastest players on the team and all Gattis could do with him besides the MSU game was jet sweeps. Got to think whoever is going to be the next OC will get these skilled players the ball more and a lot quicker as well whether it is Anthony, Edwards, Henning, etc… Also have some interesting freshman coming in as well that might see some action.
Gattis or Miami will have to pay the buyout of his contract … $500,000 … got to think if/when JH was going to sign a new contract that all the assistant coaches were going to get raises as well. All the fans seem to be in a hurry to sign a contract, but not JH … to me of all people you would think JH and his family would want the contract signed simply because he is going to double his salary the minute it is signed along with likely a “Signing bonus” that so many guys get to putting their name on a piece of paper.
Got to think it will get done by spring or likely the first PC that JH has for spring practices will be all about his contract, when is he going to sign it, what are the other coaches getting, and if the University has caved at all with the transfer portal deal or academics of it all?
Will be a interesting spring that is for sure. I remember last off-season when people was bored of Michigan football and made comments about at least the Detroit Lions had interesting news coming out of their camp. Well as the movie Gladiator said “Are you not entertained” … I believe we have 5-6 weeks before spring practice starts.
CoachBT Comments: Don’t think it is his leaving that people are upset. It is text that he sent players that (IMO) is over the top. Bring players into his disagreement with administration is a classless act (IMO).
EnergyBlue1 Comments: Had no business bringing the players into that. Fact is he has a good offense but he didn’t do a good job of installing it and coaching his position group. He struggled with both. This is the fallout of someone that thought they were ready and wasn’t. If he were ready he’d have already been the HC somewhere else after the season
The strength of the offense was the run game. The passing game took a while and was always clunky in part because of qb limitations with Cade but also receivers weren’t well coached (IMO) and that was on Gattis. We shall see where it goes but I’m not going to lose sleep over a coach that pulled that move.
Doc4Blu Comments: First, and maybe most important, Coach, Energy, and others are correct when labeling this communication with the players as inappropriate. Coach will back me up, this is not how you go out the door, especially when the coach leaves/resigns.
His letter was emotional, maybe about a two week simmer down my brain before I say or write anything decision would have been much better. This action was done to damage UM without going over a line he would have to pay for later. I like what Energy put up, always do. E hit some defining basics right on the nose.
I was never on the Gattis bandwagon: he could recruit and the players loved him as a coach and person. That is a good thing. But he was always no better than number two on offensive creation and implementation wherever he was. The main brains behind Bama and PSU were not named Gattis.
When it comes to matching scheme, adjustments, game planning, game preparation, etc. he is not in the class of Sark, McDaniels, Riley, and many, many others who week in and week out show incredible wrinkles. He is not even in the class of Bill O’Brien. How much speed in space he will deliver to Miami will be interesting to see. There is no shortage of speed down there.
The UM offense worked because of some good fortune, a decent line, a banger of a back, and a better defense. Some guy could come in here and make the UM offense really hard to stop, but it will need to improve outside the tackles for that to happen. The receivers, excepting Ronny Bell, have not been involved enough, and the material is there to cause some grief.
UM needs to say nothing, go get the best guy to score points; gonna need it to match the 40+ Tuos is going to score next year. If I am Warde, I am not losing sleep.
