GBMWolverine Message Board Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recently signed commitment Dylan Crawford.
Michigan signee, Dylan Crawford, announced his commitment at the annual Army All-Star Game. There was little angst or suspense as Michigan was viewed to be the leader by most recruiting sites.
Michigans 2016 class of receivers will be deep and versatile. Some of the commits, the bigger receviers, will certainly be wideouts. But others could fill a slot position or flank out as needed.
Ahmir Mitchell and Brad Hawkins are bigger receivers compared to Crawford. Hawkins and Mitchell hopefully can do a nice job of blocking the edge and fitting into the well-designed patterns of Coach Fisch and other offensive passing game staff members.
Nate Johnson and Dylan Crawford are high-level athletes and offer versatility. Both are good route runners and have nice cutting ability. As such, both can play multiple spots within an offense. Michigan also has a couple of athletes/rb/combo players that are not out of the realm of ending up in the receiving corps.
Dylan Crawford was one of many 2016 wide receivers who were ranked very similarly in the national rankings. Most of the rankings had Crawford in the 15-25 range (national) at receiver. A good consensus of overall ranking was somewhere between a 100 to 150 individual national ranking, a range that attracts attention in the recruiting process.
Dylan is slightly downgraded by some sites a little for size, since he is neither a big six-foot three-inch bruiser that is currently trendy, or a turn-on-a-dime smurf. Crawford has plenty of desirable traits, including, as mentioned, very good route running, jumping ability, and cutting. His speed is not elite, but may be better than most of the other Michigan receiving signees.
Dylan is from a parochial school in California and has a very solid GPA. He values toughness, so that should get him off to a good start with Coach Harbaugh, assuming he demonstrates said characteristic.
Dylans offer sheet was not overwhelming, but clearly could be considered significant. In line with his high scholarship were offers from Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Michigan. Oregon and many other west coast major programs also offered.
Dylan Crawford will almost certainly play a role at Michigan. The question to be answered is will he be a star or just another solid player? Either way, Michigan has a youngster with strong potential.

Dylan Crawford, known as Kekoa, is a 6-2 wide receiver from Santa Margarita High School in California. He was also a two-way player who has the ability to play wide receiver and the ability to play defensive back. Kekoa is also a punt returner and a kick returner with an elite skill set in terms of catching the football. He has an outgoing personality, serious and driven, but also enjoys working. Kekoa is a guy who is going to come to work and be serious about working, but he is going to really enjoy the grind. He has excellent academics; was an outstanding student. He has a great skill set and will be a great addition to our program.

Dylans middle name is Kekoa, meaning warrior in Hawaiian. Kekoa also means bold, courageous and brave. All of these qualities describe Kekoa. He is intense, competitive and focused. He does not back down from a challenge and it motivates him to push harder and be better. He has strong leadership capabilities and understands the responsibility that comes with it, but is also very collaborative and is open to hearing other perspectives. He also has a softer side, and can be empathetic, loyal, generous and funny. He has a quick wit and enjoys a lively exchange.
Kekoa is very close to his Grandma Rose, whom he affectionately calls Gma or G. She has been living with us since he was born, and he is very proud that she will see him attend the University of Michigan. He is looking forward to her attending his first college game in the fall, which is even more special given that U-M is playing the University of Hawaii, as Gma and Mom are from Hawaii.
The attributes that make Kekoa a strong football player also reflects who he is as a person. He is a very hard worker and is team oriented. He will do what is needed for success. While he is very competitive, he is also very supportive of his teammates. He is always there to cheer them on and celebrate their success. After an undefeated regular season during his junior year, Dylan's team had to rely on a sophomore to come in at quarterback in the playoffs after the senior starter went down. In the second round, he threw an interception that cost the team the game and its perfect season. As everyone left the field, the quarterback was beside himself alone on the field. Kekoa walked to his quarterback, bent down to console him and walked him to the locker room with his arm around him for support.
Overview:
Dylan Crawford is a long and wiry wide receiver who could play either slot or split end at Michigan. In our opinion he is a better fit at split end. He caught 95 passes for almost 1900 yards and 20 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Dylan is a strong student with a reported 3.8 GPA.
Strengths:
Dylan Crawford is a silky smooth, fluid athlete, one with little wasted movement. He has very good agility and also shows nice loose hips. Dylan runs good routes and uses his loose hips to change levels. He also moves in and out of cuts with little lost speed. His film shows good toughness and demonstrates a willing blocker. Crawford is fearless over the middle and shows good concentration. More so than many similar receivers, Dylan is sure-handed.
Concerns/Needs Work:
Like about any incoming high school receiver around 180 pounds, Dylan will need to get bigger and stronger. He also needs to be more consistent beating jams. Film shows good quickness, but he is definitely not a burner. Dylan also needs to improve his explosiveness.
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
